Lessons
At Safe Haven Stables, we have two instructors - Brandon Aby and Augusta Spandler. Both Brandon and Augusta have been around horses (as well as other large and small animals) for the majority of their lives and offer experience and knowledge for all levels. More information on our instructors can be found on the Instructors page. You can also check out the horses on the Horses page!
We teach five days a week (no Wednesdays or weekends), mainly in the evenings during the weekdays. Our students are required to wear proper attire: shoes with a heel, hard sole, and cover the ankles. We also ask that our students wear long pants, and helmets are required for those under 18 years of age (we have some helmets for you to use if you do not own your own helmet). All tack and equipment are supplied by us if you are using one of our horses.
We have a few horses that can be used for beginner lessons or advanced lessons and we provide lessons to all levels in both English and Western styles of riding. We can provide you a lesson on your own horse as well if you want to trailer your horse to our facility.
There are a variety of styles of riding we can teach:
Each student who is just beginning will be taught how to groom and tack up their horse and eventually will be expected to groom and tack up themselves prior to their lessons. We also will teach the different parts of tack, as well as all the different parts of the horse. Each student will be expected to demonstrate good horsemanship - we will NOT tolerate any poor horsemanship. Once students are able to groom and tack up on their own without assistance, they are welcome to come out prior to their lesson to groom and tack up so that they can be ready to ride at the start of their lesson.
In addition to lessons, students will be able to choose shows/competitions they'd like to attend (whether it is to watch and/or compete). We offer hauling services and coaching services at all shows, and we will be more than happy to go along as your coach to a show you'd like to attend and that the rest of Safe Haven may not be participating in that day.
